The variety of the landscape on the Costa Blanca is complemented by an equally ample choice of cultural attractions, gastronomy, craftsmanship and festivities to be found throughout the region.. Nobody would deny that the Costa Blanca is one of the most attractive destinations in Europe for those seeking to enjoy sunshine and beaches, keeping at the same time in close contact with nature. This is a privileged land, both for its climate and for its natural surroundings, combining a coast-line of fine, golden sandy beaches and an interior noted for the contrast it offers of fertile green valleys dedicated to agriculture, and gentle mountain slopes dotted with charming and picturesque Mediterranean villages.

The virtually year-round presence of the sun, combined with a climate to be envied, where the average temperature is some 20 degrees, means that one can swim and practise other types of water sports at any time of the year. At the same time, beauty spots and nature parks offer endless possibilities to those who prefer mountain-walking, horse-riding, cycling or climbing. The following beaches have gained the European Blue Flag. Villas to Rent In Spain - San Fulgencio

History

The history of San Fulgencio dats back to the 18th century, when Luis de Belluga y Moncada, Bishop of Cartegena and Murcia, endeavoured to dry out a serives of marshy, foetid lands located at the mouth of the Segura River, transforming them into fertile farmland.  This project became known as "Fundaciones Pias".

To this Cardinal San Fulgencio not only owes the name of the village, but also the fact that since its foundation it has boasted the catefory of "Villa Real", which was granted by King Felipe V.

Fiestas

Like all Villages, San Fulgencio also has an intense schedule of recreational activities and fiestas.  These are celebrations that reflect the agricultural tradition of the village.

January marks the celebration of the San Fulgencio festivities with the "Sekking of the Hen" and San Antonio Abad with the "Blessing of the Animals".  On May 15th the festivites in honour of San Isidro are celebrated, with a procession that carries a statue of the saint to natural spot known as the day enjoying the great outdoors.

The festivities in honour of its patron saint, the Virgin of Remido, are held in October, with parades of horsedrawn carriages, flower offerings to the Patron Saint, children's games and fireworks, filling the streets of San Fulgencio with light and joy.

Housing

San Fulgencio's housing developments are located 2km away from the centre of the village, in the north of the municipality. Barely a kilometre away from the beach, these residential areas are equipped with a wide variety of services: a post office, first-aid medical centre, social centre, tourist office, public transport links, shopping centres, recreation areas, etc. The development of tourism in recent decades in the Vega Baja region have also had a bearing on San Fulgencio.

Nowadays San Fulgencio is a combination of two settings: the old-fashioned farming village and the new housing developments built to saisfy tourist deman (Urb. La Marina, El Oasis, La Escuera and Las Pesqueras).  This fact has also led to a diversification of its economy, and a large number of companies from the service section such as real estate agencies, restaurants, discotheques, etc., have sprung up in the village.
